Good base for hiking, wine and Valais discoveries

About two and a half kilometres from Susten, in the upper Rhone Valley, you reach the small campsite (du) Monument. The site is in a quiet, almost isolated location. A few hundred metres of meadows and forest separate it from the riverbank. The 150 pitches are sunny or semi-shaded between trees. They are parcelled out or are located on spacious, tree-lined meadows. Camping Monument offers a snack bar and a simple outdoor pool with a small lawn for sunbathing. From the pool and many of the pitches you have a view of the mountain panoramas of the valley. The low altitude (about 600 metres) and plenty of sunshine ensure that you can enjoy many warm pool days during the camping season.

The Leuk-Susten region delights with around 3,500 hours of sunshine.

That's why you can also hike among the vines, enjoy local wines and visit the Valais Wine Museum in Salgesch. Mountain lovers will also find a wide range of sporty alpine hiking and climbing routes. Nature lovers will love the Pfynwald - it is the largest contiguous pine forest in Central Europe. In addition to dry mountain pine forest, you will discover steppe-like landscapes, meadows and ponds. You are sure to hear or see some of the more than one hundred bird species that breed here. You can explore the region on foot along the Rhone Cycle Path, the first Swiss cycle route. Many guests end their stroll through the medieval centre of Leuk with a visit to the bishop's castle. If you like pitching and putting, there is a 9-hole golf course in Leukerfeld
